Efficient machining with small tools:
In manufacturing for today’s high-tech environment, micro machining is a necessity — particularly for production of microstructures characterized by high aspect ratios and high geometric complexity. These include molds for microinjection molding, electrodes for microEDM, front panels, compact PCI, enclosures, aerospace parts, extrusions etc. — all are areas of huge industrial relevance. But, machining intricate products efficiently poses challenges to conventional methods. That's where Datron comes in. Our machining systems are designed for micro manufacturing, including micro milling, micro drilling and micro engraving. Datron's high-speed, micro-tooling technology has significantly impacted the following industries:

CNC for 3D molds, stamps, dies, moldmaking and prototypes Engraving/Moldmaking/Prototyping: Designed with the industrial engraver in mind, Datron machines are your first choice for 3D engraving in brass, steel, cera, and plastics. A solid cast steel base provides excellent vibration dampening, and yields the superior surface finishes needed to produce 3D molds, stamps, and dies of the highest quality. An integrated tool changer for up to 18 tools, with tool length setter, allows for easy and automated “lights out” <link to Glossary> operation.

In Their Own Words (Customers Speak Out):
Since purchasing the Datron milling and engraving system, our productivity at Sign Systems has increased by 60%. Jobs that used to take our team a week to complete are now finished by Tuesday evening! Not only has this machine helped us to increase our productivity, it has been pivotal in allowing us to expand the scope of jobs that we pursue. Due to its exceptional functionality and ease of operation, the M3 allows me to take on the most challenging jobs with ease. It has added years back on to my life!

I am writing this letter as a follow-up to our purchase of a CAT3D M5 to let you know how satisfied we are with our Datron M5 machine.

When we are ready to order another milling machine, Datron will receive another order. All contacts at your company are extremely helpful in all aspects of this business. I have always enjoyed your technical expertise when it comes to running the Datron. Many times we operate the Datron around the clock when it comes to the intricate work that we require for our moulds. Anytime you would like to refer someone who maybe interested in purchasing a Datron to me, or, if you would like to bring someone out for demonstration, please do so. Let me know of anything that I can do to help you as you have done so much for me. Thank you!

.004" (0.1mm) micro holes drilled in Delrin Micro Drilling: Small highly accurate holes are becoming a common requirement across a range of industries and applications. From hydraulic valves and spray nozzles to torch tips and gasoline direct injectors, the ability to drill small, precise, repeatable holes is key to the integrity and functioning of a given product. Plus, many of the applications have volume requirements so drill time ultimately rivals cost and quality in terms of importance.

Enter Datron, with machines that feature a 60,000 RPM spindle that spins micro-drills as small as .004” (0.1mm) with precision and repeatability in X,Y and Z. Our sheer speed combined with a micro-spray alcohol coolant system produces holes with smooth walls, well defined edges and virtually void of dross or recast.

Smooth clean walls
Sharp, well defined edges
High volume production
All-in-one micro-drilling, cutting, milling and engraving

In Their Own Words (Customers Speak Out):
This project has been a great success, in that we have two machines running identical programs, the cycle times have been reduced drastically and we have also decreased the setup time for other ends of the manufacturing process.

Microsoft Windows based control software integrates with any CAD/CAM package ... so that you go from art to part in minutes! Rapid Prototyping: Rapid prototyping is the name given to a host of related technologies that are used to fabricate physical objects directly from CAD data sources. With Datron machines, parts made through rapid prototyping may be used directly in many final applications. Rapid prototyping-generated parts may well offer a direct solution to application problems having material requirements ranging from plastics and graphite, to aluminum and other non-ferrous metals.

The fact that Datron’s Windows® Control Software is user-friendly, easy to learn, robust and integrates with virtually any CAD/CAM software, immediately empowers our customers — providing them with a platform capable of transforming an idea on a napkin to a completed part quickly and cost-effectively.

For Rapid Prototyping, PrimCAM’s comprehensive and user-friendly interface allows novice and experienced users to to get the results they want in just minutes. PrimCAM’s short learning curve and powerful features make it the suitable CAD software for use on the production floor as well as in the design office. Whether you need to design parts in the included CAD package or convert CAD files, PrimCAM is the software of choice for 2½ D applications.

PrimCAM is an icon driven, intuitive tool path generator for CNC controlled machining centers. The intention of PrimCAM is to offer a very user-friendly interface. PrimCAM features an integrated CAD package with no external CAD software necessary and the user can import various file formats such as .dxf and .bmp files.

Primcam includes an integrated database for the management of tools, materials, cutting feed rate tables, machine controls and more. This allows for automatic control of RPM and feed rates from the material and tools chosen.

Tool path calculations change with any CAD geometry alterations. A part library management system allows the user to pick and place standard or common tool path profiles.

PrimCAM also contains a graphic simulator, where NC programs can be emulated and provides a manufacturing time calculation.

Primcam is Windows 9X, NT, and 2000 compatible.
CNC for machining graphite, EDM, electrodes Graphite/EDM/Electrodes: Other equipment manufacturers may tell you that working with graphite is the same as any other substrate. The reality is that processes like redressing graphite ram EDM dies and machining electrodes produces an abrasive dust that can be damaging to CNC machines and reduce their efficiency. That’s why Datron has engineered machine features specifically for your unique application and environment.

The linear guide ways and precision ground ball screws are covered and feature positive airflow as well as an automatic greasing system that forces any debris out of the machines’ working parts. A 60,000 RPM spindle is pressurized to prevent any dust from entering the bearings. The enclosure is designed for optimized airflow and can easily be fitted with a dust collector or your existing dust collection system to keep airborne dust in check. Plus, our products’ compact design, together with the 208V-7 Amps power requirement, allows it to be placed right next to your ram EDM machine.
