Playing it SMART. But as you may have heard, the Datron Dynamics corporate tagline is “Smart CNC Machines™” and with a statement like that you have to be able to back it up. Well, the way we see it, you can’t have a “smart” machine without a whole slew of “smart” features and options that minimize operator intervention, speed production, improve quality and directly impact our customer’s bottom line. The following options are available on all of our machines (except where noted).
Datron's micro tool management vs tool breakage detection is a superior means to unattended production efficiency Datron means innovation in options like probing and workholding
Automatic Tool Management System™: Whether you stick with the standard tool changer that comes with the package price or upgrade to one with more tools, you’ll be pleased with some unique features. For example, our tool checker is a mechanical sensor that measures tool length and can detect a broken tool. And our software can be programmed with a macro to initiate a tool check at regular intervals by employing an “if/then” statement such as, “Measure this tool; if the length is shorter than the listed parameter, then change the tool.” Automatic Tool Management Systems with 3-, 9-, 10-, 15-, 20-, 30 & 40-tool changers are available depending on machine model.
Datron 3D probing recognizes irregular workpiece topography and automatically compensates for it in the machining program before the machining starts Z-Correction Probe™: Datron’s optional, but integrated Z-Correction Probe recognizes irregular work-piece topography and compensates for it dynamically. It does this by taking measurements along the surface of a blank and feeding that data into the machining controller. The controller automatically adjusts for uneven surfaces or work piece position. Through this process, job setup times are reduced and piece/part rejection is minimized.
Datron 3D probing detects irregularities in X Y and Z axes finds centers of holes and bosses pre measures blanks feeds data into ISO 9000 and allows for reverse engineering 3D Extension: With the addition of the 3D Extension, the Z-Correction Probe locates parts and material irregularities in the X, Y, and Z co-ordinates, finds centers of holes and bosses, pre-measures blanks before the machining starts, compensates for material variations, feeds data into ISO 9000 information chain for quality control, and even allows for the reverse engineering of many parts.
Datron offers an optional Renishaw TP20 probe for complex part measurement Renishaw TP20 Probe®: The omni-axis Renishaw TP20 probe is ideal for complex part measurement such as engraving a logo onto a rounded surface. Ordinarily, 3D programming would be necessary to accommodate surface depth changes and ensure an even depth engraving. With the TP20, the surface is scanned and irregularities or surface changes are automatically managed in the machining data without 3-D programming. The TP20 features a 6-way, kinematic, touch-trigger probe system to significantly improve cycle times.
Datron offers optional 4th and 5th axis axes for high speed vertical CNC machining centers 4th Axis or 4th & 5th Axes: The 4th Rotary Axis option comes complete with one collet chuck (inside diameter from 3mm to 20mm), chuck wrenches and operational software. The servo-controlled axis has a resolution of 64,000 steps per revolution. The axis can be augmented with a standard lathe chuck or custom fixture for larger diameter parts. The dimensions are 8”(w) x 4”(h) x 6.5”(d) Our tilting 5th Axis Rotary Indexer with manual collet closer comes with a programmable servo control and CNC interface cables.
Datron offers optional micro jet oil coolant system for stainless steel applications Micro-Jet Coolant System™: The Micro-Jet Coolant System is specifically designed for machining steel (and replaces our standard Ethanol-Mist Coolant System™). An oil-based coolant is atomized by compressed air and is forced through nozzles on the machining spindle. The coolant is evenly disbursed on both tool and substrate and penetrates the cutting channel where it expands as it exits thereby producing a cooling effect. The heat from the cutting process evaporates the non-oil content of the mist leaving high lubricity oil to lubricate the cutting tip.
The Graphite Vortex™: When graphite dust settles on surfaces, it becomes stubborn and is hard to remove. That’s why Datron engineers developed a way to keep the dust swirling in a spiral air flow. The cylinder and suction hose on The Graphite Vortex™feature a special geometry to create a vortex effect. An industrial brush head extends the height of the vortex to capture stray particles, while at the same time, allowing the spindle and probe to move in and out of the machining area — without restricting their movements. <Click!> For More Info.
The PCB Kit™: The Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Package available with the EcoRaptor allows you to mill, drill and rout PCBs without parts lifting from the machining table during the process. The unique pressure-foot brush assembly moves over populated and bare board products without damaging components or scratching the PCB — while at the same time, providing a downward pressure that eliminates lifting. This assembly, in concert with the dust extraction control-valve system provides an integrated solution for producing ESD-safe and dust-free Printed Circuit Boards. <Click!> For More Info.
Dust Extraction™: The Datron suction unit (SAS) can be used to dispose of the chips and dust produced during machining. A brush around the milling cutter prevents chips and dust from escaping the suction area of the suction unit. The hoses have been attached in such a way that they do not obstruct machine movements and cannot be bent. <Click!> For More Info.
Vision System: The Datron IVS (Integrated Vision System) is housed in a rugged metal chassis for industrial applications. It is mounted to the Z-axis of our machining centers for locating fiducials with great accuracy. This industrial camera includes a lighting system that can be configured to meet the diverse needs of our customers. The Datron IVS includes fiducial identification software. As the camera moves to a pre-defined location or window, it identifies fiducials within a 20mm area and feeds offset data into the machine’s Microsoft Windows-based control software. <Click!> For More Info.
Windows®-based Control Software (Offline): This intuitive control comes standard on all Datron machines. But often, product development and programming is done on a different workstation. That’s why we offer an offline version as an option. This allows R&D to be done remotely within the same program and software environment. The user can see how the machine will respond to their program and work out the kinks before uploading the files to the machine’s operating computer. <Click!> For More Info.
Datron offers optional LED flat screen monitors to save space energy efficiency and dereased operational costs 17” Flat Screen Monitor: You can order an optional 17” Flat Screen Monitor to replace the standard CRT monitor included in this miniRaptor Package Price. Compact and lightweight, LCD monitors take up less of your valuable space and can be positioned for easy viewing from the operator’s setup area. LCD’s work on the principle of blocking light rather than emitting it and are more energy efficient. The resulting energy savings yields a drop in operational costs that leads to a better bottom line.
Datron offeres Quick Pallets Vacumate vacuum tables and pneumatic clamping systems that can be integrated and custom designed for your specific application Custom Workholding: A range of workholding solutions are available for Datron machines. The pneumatic clamping system allows for a quick setup that holds blanks securely. With our Vacumate™ (vacuum table) even parts with minimal surface area can be batch-milled from thin substrates and held in place during machining. Datron’s lightweight Quick-Pallets™ use a beveled boss-in-cavity system to register parts in X, Y & Z for improved repeatability on jobs with frequent change-over. <Click!> For More Info.
Automation with Digital I/O: The versatility of our controller allows Datron machines to integrate with most forms of automation. The control can interface with external automation systems such as pallet changers, robotics and clamping systems. With 16 input/outputs and many options within each I/O, the control can tackle very sophisticated automation requirements. The control can also run up to 32 separate I-Servo® drives simultaneously for complex automation requirements.
While Datron vertical CNC machining centers are easy to operate we offer superior training and technical support to get you off to a great start in the world of high speed micro machining and engraving Onsite Training & Installation: With onsite training, we'll install your machine and provide an overview of our operating software. We'll also demonstrate the interfacing of 3rd party machining files with the Datron control. This is performed on your machine at your location (travel expenses, hotel, airfare, food and car rental per diem). For some customers this training may not be necessary and they can get started by using the Datron Tutorial Kit. This includes a step-by-step guide that walks the operator through the control software, teaches protocol for new job setup, executing programs, machine coordinate system, creating sub macros, tool database setup, and basic machining practices for a Datron high-speed machining center. The kit consists of the user’s manual, a PVC mounting fixture, 4 aluminum plates, 2 end mills, 2 engraving tools and mounting hardware. It's a great "future reference" and provides you with a resource for refresher courses and training of new operators.
Datron has the lowest cost spindle replacement program in the industry. Just ask Haas how much they'll charge to replace a spindle and compare that to our $2000 replacement ... holy smokes! Low-Cost Spindle Replacement: We are dedicated to customer satisfaction — and while our high-frequency spindles are among the most reliable on the market, they do have intricate working parts that sometimes require service. With the knowledge that the time required for spindle repair impacts both the production and throughput of our customers, Datron has developed a spindle exchange program where replacement spindles are delivered, in most cases, within 24 hours.
